Prerna Arora on exploring horror genre: “Would love to make a horror film on AI”
2 min readFilmmaker Prerna Arora has always been associated with groundbreaking cinema. The producer, known for her socially relevant filmography including ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha,’ ‘Padman,’ ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’, and more, is now setting her sights on blending the genre of horror with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Known for her innovative approach to filmmaking, Arora explains how she wants to offer a unique and spine-tingling experience that explores the terrifying potential of AI.
“I’d love to make a horror film based on the world of AI. It’s not just about creating fear, but about challenging our understanding of technology’s role in our lives and what happens when it spirals out of control. I want audiences to leave the theatre questioning the very nature of our relationship with artificial intelligence,” explains Prerna Arora. She asserts it will make for an excellent storyline fusing AI, CGI and horror. Previously, she has also produced the Anushka Sharma starrer, Pari, which released in 2018.
Recently, Dinesh Vijan also ventured into this off-beat faction of filmmaking as Maddock Films unveiled the trailer of Munjya. This horror-comedy features India’s first CGI actor and has never been attempted before in the Hindi film landscape. Commenting on this, Arora added, “Maybe I could explore something like this in the Telugu industry. I have a robust team here who would love to work on a topic as eccentric as this.”
If Arora forays into the horror-AI genre, it will be nothing less than a cinematic milestone. Meanwhile, on the work front, Prerna has interesting projects lined up this year. She has the Nidhhi Agerwal-Tusshar Kapoor starrer ‘Dunk: Once Bitten Twice Shy’ in her kitty, which focuses on the urgent need for legal protections, enforcement mechanisms, and support systems to safeguard the rights of farmers. Her Telugu-Hindi venture ‘Hero Heeroine’ is a bilingual film starring Divya Khossla, Paresh Rawal and Tusshar Kapoor among others in an ensemble cast.
