In most cases, in television, women lead the story: Binaiferr Kohli

Binaiferr Kohli is an advocate of women’s empowerment, but she is definitely not a pseudo-feminist, and that is quite evident in all her shows, which are produced under her banner Edit II. Sharing her thoughts on how the industry has evolved in terms of portraying women, she feels that they maintain their dignity.

She said, “In comedy, shows have evolved. Women keep themselves funny, maintain their dignity, and appear very cute and silly at the same time. It’s like your sweetheart, Lucille Ball, who used to appear on TV, the international series. Women have been very progressive and assertive, maintaining their stand.”

She mentioned that gender equality has been one of the most debatable topics in the industry, with issues like pay disparity in focus, but TV is all about women. “In the television industry, women are the heroes, but in Bollywood, the man is the hero. So, in most cases in television, women lead the story, and the male is equally effective and helpful in maintaining the image of both of them, and I feel both are equal now,” she said.

Her shows Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain! and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan recently completed 9 years and 5 years, respectively, on TV, and Binaiferr couldn’t be happier. She thanked everyone associated with the show, and said, “It’s a great feeling for us and for our company, Edit II. The credit for the success of the shows goes to everybody, from our supporting channel &tv, to the creatives of Edit II, the writers, actors, cinematographers, lightmen, spotboys, and every single person who is associated with the show, as well as the audience, who have given us the courage to make it better every day.”

Binaiferr also pointed out that it’s the clean comedy and their hard work that have helped them retain the audience. “Our shows are clean comedy with a lot of witty dialogue and acting. We manage to retain the audience to watch our shows as we try harder and harder. The actors are completely engrossed in their roles, the writers write fabulously, and the direction is par excellence,” she ended.
